Prepare the first nine digits
For an account such as 123456789 RT0001, the registry asks for the first nine digits only, without letters. This is a format example, not a real registered-business claim.
Find the business name and transaction date
Use the supplier’s legal, operating or trading name and the date on your invoice, receipt or contract. The name supplied to CRA may differ from the displayed name.
Use the official registry and retain its result
Open CRA’s registry and enter the details there. CRA recommends printing the Search Details screen. This site does not reproduce registry results.
Unexpected results and common errors
Do not include RT0001 in the nine-digit field. If the displayed name produces no match, ask the supplier for the exact name supplied to CRA. Use the transaction date rather than today’s lookup date.
CRA’s terms prohibit commercial reproduction of registry results. We do not automate registry searches or infer tax registration from our corporation index.
Does correct format prove registration?
No. Only the official service can confirm the information it returns. Our format check is not confirmation.
Does this guarantee a trustworthy business?
No. Tax registration does not guarantee supplier quality or absence of fraud. Also compare the legal name, corporation number and official documents.
