An identifier assigned by the corporate registry responsible for the corporation. Formats differ between registries.
In practice
Keep the number with its issuing jurisdiction. Identical-looking numbers in different registries do not necessarily identify the same entity.
What to check next
Search the matching official registry and compare the legal name. Do not substitute a federal business number or NEQ without checking the form’s instructions.
Sources and review
Source checked October 30, 2026. Examples illustrate the process; they do not describe a real corporation.
