A unique nine-digit federal identifier assigned by the Canada Revenue Agency.

In practice

Program accounts extend the base with a two-letter code and four-digit reference. A request for BN9 asks for the base, not the full program account.

What to check next

Use the number-versus-corporation-number guide before searching. The BN is different from Québec’s ten-digit NEQ.
